| When moisture is present within the ground some soil types do not provide particularly good drainage. As almost all buildings sit on foundations within the soil, there is a danger that this moisture will saturate the structure below ground level and cause damage to the building. Tanking a structure ensures that there is a complete and continuous sealed membrane across the floor slab area and which travels vertically up the external masonry, achieving a water protective envelope.
